Kat Spills the Beans and Says Goodbye

Oh boy.

The drama that's going to spill after this.

This post was written before Lia finished hers, so it's rather hard for me to play off her themes and all that so I'm just going to go with it.

HEY BTW

MAKE SURE YOU READ LIA'S POST FIRST

 Did you do that?

Ok good.

Moving on.

This blog is the first blog that really got Lia into blogging and the first time I really stepped into this end of the blogging world. You could, in fact, blame everything on an English class I took my sophomore year of high school at the community college near me. We had to start a blog about what we wrote for our class project and now...

Can you believe we've been blogging since 2016? So much has happened! We've had tons of comments, tons of friends and tons of posts! (My favorite post being, of course, the Banana Cream Pie one and this one.)

But it is time for our time blogging on Catholic Girl Stuff to come to an end. Lia and I have both moving on to different areas in our lives and we need to stop holding on to the past to really do so. And I really hate doing things halfway and that's basically all this blog has been for the past year or so: half-hearted effort and last minute posts.

I think the thing I will miss most about it is doing the "dual posts" with Lia. Hopefully, we'll be able to continue them on Lia's blog.

And now...the beans.
As promised.

This is actually kind of hard for me to do, even though I've been planning it for a while.

It is time for my secret identity to be revealed.

I'm MK from Sarcastic Scribblings, y'all.

No.

I'm not joking.

Why did I do this?

1. It amused me

2. I wrote a guest post (I'll try and find it and link it in the comments) and Ivie Brooks asked me if Kat and MK were the same people. I don't remember what I said, but I ended up having two friends come to the rescue and be like, "Um. No. Of course not!"
And then I was kind of stuck?

3. I started Sarcastic Scribblings because I wanted to blog without people I knew following my blog. This was in part because I wanted to gain followers etc on my own to feet, so to speak and get honest feedback on my writing. It was also because Lia uses the email linked to CGS as a personal email and talked to a lot of people I also know. Therefore, they knew about the blog and with every post, I put up I'm kind of thinking about them in the back of my mind.  It made it so that I could blog about whatever I wanted on Sarcastic Scribblings. I read a book that I wouldn't necessarily recommend to everyone I know because it has some questionable content but I still enjoyed the overall story?
I can feel free to blog about it.
It gave me the ability to be who I am and who I want to be.
And now?

Well, I kind of hope that all the people I know + was worried who were following this blog have lost interest and moved on. But honestly?
If they're still here they either like what I'm writing or they're one of the sad lurkers who just kind of quietly check on what you're up to.

I'm doing great, lurkers.

And if I 'fess up, then I can do dual posts with Lia after this, so there's that.
That's honestly one of the biggest driving factors.

Am I still a little hesitant? Yes.
Am I doing it anyway? Also yes.

It's time to stop letting the opinions of other people stop me.
And it's time to let CGS go so Lia and I can move on.

Onward into the bright future.
Goodbye Catholic Girl Stuff.

And let the drama in the comment section begin!

Awkward and Awesome // Workouts, Exercise, But Mostly Running

________________AWKWARD________________

Long skirts get tangled up around your legs and trip you,
short skirts tend to fly up when you run,
denim skirts refuse to behave...

The price of running shoes O.O

When you're sick and can't run and its driving you crazy

Or even worse, when you twist your ankle or something so that you CAN'T run or lift or whatever, but you're still healthy and just have to sit around

People who walk to abreast on the trails and won't. get. over. to. let. you. through.

When you have your feet stuck under something so you can do situps and your foot slips out and you knee yourself in the face

When you're doing pushups and you underestimate how close the ground is and instead of having your chin up, you're looking down so you knock your forehead into the floor
...
And then the hollow clunk makes you laugh, so you drop onto the ground and your siblings find you lying face first on the floor laughing into the floorboards.

When someone you don't like can do more pushups then you and you sit there with mixed feelings of rage, annoyance, disgust, and slight respect
(Note, it has to be a fairly impressive amount of pushups to get the respect part since I can do about jack diddly in the push up area)

People who don't clean of the machine before they leave...Yay. Sweat. My favorite. :(

People who change the channel on the TV.
"Hey buddy. Trying to watch Cutthroat kitchen here, not CNN!"
But do we say that? No. Because that would be rude.

When you're having a lovely run and then step in a dip and twist your ankle. Not enough for it to be hurt, just enough to throw you off your run and make it achy

When you try and shower after a work out and your family decided to run laundry and the dishwasher and there. is. no. hot. water.....in December.

New socks

NEW RUNNING SHOES

The burn in your legs after a long run that makes you feel alive

Also the adrenaline rush after you've finished that makes you want to climb the side of the house and dance on the roof (PRO TIP: DON'T)

The pleasant ache of muscles after a good day

Also the feeling when you stretch and you start to feel your tendons burn

When someone says they can do more situps then you so you end up having a contest in the hallway... and some poor boys walk up to see all these girls crowded around counting...
"49..50...51..."
(And for  your information I won...by a lot.)

Sweat.
I know, I know.
Its stinky, wet, and just generally disgusting.
But it means your out there, living life.
And that makes all the difference

Weird Things I Tried That I Ended Up Liking

They aren't all "weird" per say.

But here are some of the things I've tried that I ended up loving.

Acupuncture:
Acupuncture for Fertility and Pregnancy https://www.facebook.com/YostFamilyChiropractic
[Pinterest]

I know. It sounds a little creepy to some people to have tiny needles stuck in you. But you actually can't feel the needles. And its fun!

Bubble Tea
Georgia Peaches and Pearls

[Pinterest]

I tried this fairly recently (we don't have any place near by that sells it.) And now I'm hooked. The place we got it from is too far away to drive, so now I have to learn how to make it myself.

Tim Tams

Irresistable cupcakes made with a classic cookie we love
[Pinterest]

Crunchy chocolate cookies with creamy chocolate filling. Dipped in chocolate. These are extremely amazing. (And I'm not really a chocolate person. Or a cookie person.) If you want to try them, most grocery stores have them now. I'm told Kroger does and I normally get them from Meijer.

British Candy
New Zealand Candy Deliciousness | hungry and fithungry and fit

[Pinterest]
You may or may not know of my love of tea, scones and British food. I am extremly fond of Crunchie Bars, Flake chocolate bars, vimto flavored bon bons and Maltesers
These particular candies I found at a British Food's store near me, but you can order them online.

Mochi

mochi balls.... mmmmmmmmm.

   [Pinterest]

A Japanese sweet. Has a pasty doughy taste.

And that is why you should try new things! Because there are so many good things out there!
Or maybe it is the reason you should NOT try new things. You'd end up like me, ordering a strange assortment of sweets off the internet and writing boring blog posts about them.

Da Da Dah!

It is OCTOBER!

FASHION BOOTS! LATTES! work. School. Flu season. I am cold.

Our theme this month is a mixture between The Rosary and Fatima.

Because the 13th is the 100th anniversary of the day the sun danced!

Major Feast Days:

Oct 4: Saint Francis of Assisi
Oct 5: Saint Faustina
Oct 7: Our Lady of the Rosary
Oct 13: 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MIRACLE AT FATIMA
Oct 15: Saint Theresa of Avila
Oct 18: Saint Luke
Oct 24: Saint Raphael
Oct 29: Feast of Christ the King

Oh, and do you know why you shouldn't write with a broken pencil?

Because it is pointless.

(Much like my jokes)

WHO HAD THE BETTER JOKE? TELL US IN THE COMMENTS!

(Ps. I a, just a liddy bit competitive, in case you haven't guessed)

Banana Cream Pie Recipe (because Ascension and food.)

Tomorrow is the feast of the Ascension. Ascension Thursday. Our Lord's Ascension into heaven.

(The Poison. The poison for Kuzco. The poison chosen  specially for Kuzco. Kuzco's poison.)

*ahem*

So, many of us have younger siblings living with us and the rest of us love food, so I decided to include this happy little banana cream pie recipe.

Ummmm  Kat???

(Yes?)

What does Banana Cream Pie have to do with Ascension Thursday?

Well, it's like this.

First, does everyone know what a Banana Cream Pie looks like?

Well, I'll tell you. Yellow banana pudding, fluffy white stuff on top. *ding* and there you go.

And the Ascension Thursday part?

Well,, on the Ascension, the Lord rose up into the clouds (aka fluffy stuff at the top) and the apostles down below...

wait for it

...went bananas.

*laughing*

(And yes, I have been waiting since November for my chance to post this.)

But where's the pie? You promised us a DIY Banana Cream Pie!

-----------------------------------------------

Ingredients!
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn starch
  • 1/2 tsp* salt
Image result for sleeping beauty teaspoon

Image result for sleeping beauty teaspoon

  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 large egg, slightly beaten
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Nine Inch pastry shell, baked
  • 2 large firm bananas
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped

  • Got it? Good.

In a large saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, salt and milk until smooth. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly, Reduce heat, cook and stir 2 minutes longer. Remove from heat. Stir a small amount of hot filling into eggs.
(Note, you have to let it cool first, or it will cook the eggs and you'll have a scrambled egg in your pie. And that's gross. mixing a tiny bit in with the eggs make the egg mixture a little closer in temperature to the custard.)
Return all to pan. Bring to a gentle boil: cook and stir for another two minutes.

    2. Remove from heat. Gently stir in butter and vanilla. Press plastic wrap onto the surface of custard, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

    3. Spread half of custard in pastry shell. Slice bananas and add a layer of them over the top of custard. Pour remaining custard over bananas. Spread whip cream over the top. Refrigerate 6 hours or overnight.

    Serves 8.

Enjoy and happy Feast of the Ascension!

How To Deal With Birds In Church

So, this morning there was a bat in church. Just flying around, swooping over people's head and creeping them out (I was enjoying it. Bats are cool, plus the book I just finished....with the bat inspired stuff....)

So, I decided to write this post! (Obviously.) This works with bats or birds.

    1. Look at the bird. Is it a small bright red songbird with a triangle crest on its head? If no, skip to step two. If yes, then laugh at the irony, because that is a cardinal.
    Image result for red cardinal
    (Obviously, this isn't my photo.)

    2. Examine said flying invader.

If the bird is flying around, then look for a door. If you have more then one door, pick the one that opens to the outside. If not, pick the one with the easiest route out. If you have more then one option, pick the biggest one. That will help them find it. You don't have to get up and shut the door right away, they don't want to come back!

If they are sitting somewhere, try and catch them. If they hop up and fly around, then yay! They're now flying. If you catch them, them yay! You now have captured the bird! (Gently) toss it out the door. (You should probably shut the door before you toss it, just to be on the safe side)

If you pick them up and they're dead, then yay! You now have a dead bird! Throw it in the trash (or you can bury it, give it a viking burial in a tiny flaming long ship. Whatever floats you boat.)

Please Note: IF YOU TOUCH A BIRD, DEAD OR OTHERWISE, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU WASH YOUR HANDS!

    So now you know!

    -Kat

(By the way, I'm putting this under a "funny" label because I happen to think I'm funny.)

    Awkward and Awesome: Assorted Stuff

    Awkward:

    • When you see a cute skirt and then hold it up to show your Mom. Oh never mind. You can see right through it.
    • When your reading a great book and you get to one of those parts where you just have to put the book down and give your brain time to register what just happened. Then you glance at your alarm clock and see it's 2 am and you notice that your eyeballs are being to burn. (But there is only five chapters left so you finish it.)
    • When your walking through the parking lot with your Mom and see a giant pick up truck. You can't help, but stare a little. (What? I happen to like pickup trucks)  Then you notice the person inside (read: guy) staring back at you with an amused smile. Oops.
    • That one day you don't shower, just throw in whatever and run to the store to buy ice cream...well, apparently your lazy days are "ALL CUTE BOYS GO GROCERY SHOPPING DAY"

    Awesome!

    • Taking my permit test as the end of this month
    • REACHING 1000 PAGE VIEWS ON THIS BLOG!!!!!!
    • New York Style Cheesecake
    • Actually doing stuff on your bucket list
    • High Heels. The awesome sound of the clicking heels. Such a power walk. I could be going to buy bread or kill somebody. You never know (Best sound ever)
    • Period Drama. and Besties
    • A new book *looks to see if anyone is watching* *Smells book*
    • Hoop Skirts. Completely impractical for day to day life but they're so fun to wear. *swish.*swish*
    • Horseback riding
    • Finishing an awesome book...... but the book made me cry!
    • My sister made bread pudding for dinner and she was telling us all the ingredients she used to make it. She said she put eggs in it. My brother spits his drink everywhere, shocked and says, "You put raw eggs in this!!!!!!!!" Clearly I need to have a talk with my brother how the oven works.....
    •  Brownie Mix (Maybe I shouldn't have put this right under Lia's story...)

    Books That Made Me Cry

    Hey y'all

I've seen a lot of YouTube videos where booktubers talk about books that made them cry. So I thought, why not do a post about mine on Blogger.
    So here we are.

I will be listing them from least amount of crying to sobbing into my pillow crying.

(WARNING, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS)  (AND CAPSLOCK)

                                                                Random flower, because why not?

    Little Women- Louisa May Alcott
Those of you who have read Little Women know what I am talking about. Beth. I loved Beth and several tears made their way down my face after her death.

Woah, another flower. I am on a roll.

    Allegiant- Veronica Roth
Dystopian fiction is not really my thing. I borrowed these books from a friend because she thought I would like them. I did, except for this last book. WHAT AUTHOR KILLS OFF THE MAIN CHARACTER OF A SERIES????????????? I was emotional to say the least.

                                                                          Pretty Flower

    Mockingjay- Suzanne Collins
I have a lot of feelings on this book. Most of them negative. I hated this series. All the killing was stupid and very violent. The last ten chapters of this book, I was crying ridiculously. It was bad.
I think it's apparent that I like flowers.

    The Royal Ranger- John Flanagan
This is when the sobbing escalated very fast. I was so upset and almost threw the book across my room. Alyss was my favorite character and I just...... GAH!!!!!!!

last bit of flowers, I promise. hehehehehe

And now for the book that had me sobbing the most.
    dun dun dun

    Heartless - Marissa Meyer
I kid you not, I had to stop reading and go sit in the bathroom so I could sob without my family noticing. I cried so hard, I needed water because I was dehydrated. I'm not even going to say what happened, go read this book. It is sad but it is so worth the read.

you thought it was going to be flowers, didn't you???

Thus concludes this sad post. I had an interesting time writing this. I'm sorry if I spoiled you but I did tell you there would be spoilers.

    Love,
    -Lia

Comment down below what you thought of my troll skills.
Also what books you have cried at.

    Confessions

    Alright guys.

I have something I'd like to share with you guys that I've been dealing with my entire life.

    I...

    am a Disney nerd.

    Side effects include:
    Randomly bursting into song
Expecting animals to come help you with cleaning
    Being happy all the time

If you know anyone with this condition, tell them there is nothing that can be done for them. This will affect you all your life.

Ok guys, this is literally the most random thing ever but I had to write this out. I hope you get a laugh out of this.
And since the best part of Disney is the music. Here.

    (Peter Pan is my favorite!!!)

    Hello February!

Today is the first day of February! We are now one month further into the year 2017.
What do we have to show for it? Have we kept up our goals? Are we getting closer to achieving our dreams?

Or are you sitting on the computer all day reading blogs? (Don't feel too bad. That's basically what I've been doing, except I have tea. Plus I like this blog. )

This is the beginning of a new month. It's time to start working again! To start sprinting toward your dreams again,

But first you should finish this blog post.

Many of my protestant friends are very surprised that the Catholics read the Bible.
Honesty? Come on. We were the ones who combined the Old and New Testament, kept and protected the Bible all these years...(Sorry. Ranting)

Since this is the Month of Marriage, (that was St. Valentine's real story you know. Saving marriages.) I suggest reading the book of Tobit.  There is a paper somewhere explaining how the book of Tobit has every Church teaching on Marriage and Family in it. (I'll try and find it for you, but I wouldn't count on it)

This would be a good book to read this month. It doesn't take long to read this book of the Bible, I read it earlier in about an hour. So just take out the Bible and read a few minutes a day.

Besides containing a lot on Marriage, it's also very funny.

Like the fact that the girl young Tobit marries has had her last 7 husbands killed by a devil on her wedding night? (Well, that's not very funny...)
So after Tobit married her, her dad sent the servants out to dig a pit, "Just in case"
Of course after he lived, they had to fill it back in....

    The New Look

    And remember....

    Quotes #2

    Hey Guys!

Another round of quotes curtesy of Pinterest.

If you want 2017 to be your year:

Don't sit on the couch and wait for it.
Go out. Make a change. Smile more.
Be excited. Do new things. Throw away
    what you've been cluttering. Unfollow
negative people on social media. Go to
bed early. Wake up early. Be fierce.
    Don't gossip. Show more gratitude.
    Do things that challenge you.
    Be brave.

    You are not the number
of A's you get in school,
nor the numbers of 0's in
    your bank account after you
    finished school.

    Instead,
You are the number of ticks
you checked off your bucket list
    and the number of smiled
    you impacted on others
while doing the things you like.

Always be yourself. Don't ever let
anybody ever tell you you're not good
enough because God made you who you are
    for a reason.

    Who are you,
    really?

    you are not a name
or a height, or a weight
    or a gender
    you are not an age
and you are not where you
    are from

    you are your favorite books
and the songs stuck in your head
    you are your thoughts
and what you eat for breakfast
    on Saturday mornings

    you are a thousand things
    but everyone chooses
    to see the million things
    you are not

    you are not
    where you are from
    you are
    where you're going
    and i'd like
    to go there
    too.

    I ADORE you, you crazy,
    gorgeous, wonderful (but
    also sometimes quite weird
    but still very lovely) person

The earth has music for those who listen.

    Being a hero doesn't mean you're invincible
it just means you're brave enough to stand up
    and do what's needed.

    She told the seashell
    her story, whispering
    every secret her memories
    held. Then she laid
the shell at the ocean's edge
    and watched the tide pick
it up and carry it out to sea...

    Don't be sad, because
    sad backwards is das,
    and das not good.

I am not an early bird
    or a night owl.
    I am some form of
    permanently exhausted
    pigeon.

    When you're young
    thunderstorms seem scary
    like the sky is
    angry at you.
    But now that I'm older,
    something about its roar
    soothes me;
    it's comforting
    to know that even nature
    needs to scream sometimes.

There are gonna be a lot of situations
that make you want to switch up your
    character. Remain you.

Well there you have it. The second installment of quotes.
    Stay tuned!

    Love,
    -Lia
